The Yoruba Council Worldwide, the apex umbrella body representing all Yoruba indigenous people globally, has addressed an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, urging the Nigerian leader to quickly intervene and resolve the lingering crisis between leading oil dealers in the country. The association expressed concern that the crisis is significantly detrimental to the nation’s economy.

Dependable NG reports that the group insisted the President must act immediately to stop what they described as certain oil cabals and union leaders who are working assiduously to sabotage the economy. The association strongly cautioned that the activities of these oil dealers contravene Section 317 of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and pose a grave threat to Nigeria’s national energy security.

The letter, which was signed on Thursday by Aare Oladotun Hassan, President of the Yoruba Council Worldwide, specifically called on President Tinubu to order a comprehensive forensic investigation into the activities of some local oil dealers. The group insisted that such a probe would help to bring sanity back into the industry.

Hassan stressed that the investigation should particularly focus on “uncovering alleged sabotage, financial improprieties and regulatory collusion.” He argued that this action would lead to “long-term solutions to stabilize Nigeria’s energy sector.” Furthermore, the group proposed that the President should initiate a “Crude Exploration Nationalisation Policy Synergy Scheme.” The statement concluded by strongly condemning a recent “malicious disruption” that the group estimates cost Nigeria an estimated N30 billion, which they believe was clearly aimed at worsening fuel scarcity and destabilizing price reforms.
