Yobe Shuts Boarding Schools for Safety
The Yobe State Government has proactively announced the temporary closure of all boarding secondary schools, urging the public to remain calm amidst the disruption.
He emphasized that the closure is temporary, confirming that the schools will be reopened to students and staff as soon as the security situation is deemed to have sufficiently improved.
The security adviser stressed the administration’s core philosophy regarding citizen safety and wellbeing. “The administration of His Excellency, Dr. Mai Mala Buni, is fully committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our children,” he stated, reinforcing the government’s dedication.
He further defended the decision, citing a proactive security principle: “Preventive action is better than reactive measures.” This justification positions the closures as a necessary defense against potential threats. Abdulsalam confirmed that the state government is not acting in isolation but is engaged in a comprehensive security strategy.
This strategy involves close collaboration with various stakeholders, including traditional security agencies, community vigilantes, and local leaders, to collectively “reinforce protection around schools and communities.” A crucial part of the state’s appeal was directed at public conduct during this sensitive period, urging citizens to exercise extreme caution regarding information dissemination.
