Yobe Police Arrest Man for Alleged Sexual Abuse of Nine-Year-Old Minor in Damaturu
The Yobe State Police Command has successfully apprehended a 30-year-old man for an alleged case of defilement and child abuse involving a nine-year-old girl in the Nayi-Nawa area of the Damaturu metropolis. This decisive action by the police underscores the Command’s commitment to tackling rising incidents of gender-based violence within the state.
Dependable NG reports that the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, issued a release confirming the arrest and detailing the initial findings of the investigation. Preliminary investigations conducted by the police revealed that the suspect had allegedly lured the minor several times into a shop situated within the timber shed area of Damaturu to carry out the nefarious acts.
Following the apprehension, the victim was immediately rescued and taken for a comprehensive medical examination to ensure her safety and determine the extent of the abuse, while the suspect was taken into police custody. The command stated that the investigation is actively ongoing and the case will subsequently be transferred to the Gender Unit at the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) for further specialized action and prompt prosecution under relevant laws.
In related developments, the Yobe State Police Command also disclosed that its operatives had successfully arrested two other suspects in connection with separate incidents of robbery and fraud across Damaturu and Bade local government areas. The police added that these suspects have reportedly confessed to the crimes and are set to be charged to court upon the completion of the ongoing investigation process. The command also expressed dismay over the rising incidents of grievous harm and injuries resulting from youth clashes in some communities, which are often linked to underlying issues such as farmer–herder disputes, drug abuse, and other related social vices. In response to these emerging challenges, the Command affirmed its commitment to intensifying surveillance and proactive policing measures across the state.
