The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has appointed Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as the new Chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT). The move further deepens the internal leadership crisis plaguing the main opposition party.

Dependable NG reports that Hon. Isah Dansidi was named as the Secretary of the factional PDP BoT. These appointments were made to replace the previously recognized BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, and Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, who were relieved of their duties by the faction.

The new BoT was inaugurated on Friday in Abuja by the factional Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed. A communique issued after the inauguration, signed by Ohuabunwa and Dansidi, cited a loss of neutrality as the primary reason for the change in leadership.

The communique stated that the immediate past BoT Chairman and Secretary could no longer serve “in order to preserve the neutrality, integrity, and moral authority of the BoT,” following their public alignment in the ongoing intra-party crisis. Accordingly, Ohuabunwa, who hails from the South like Wabara, and Dansidi, who hails from the North like Makarfi, were unanimously approved as the new leadership.
