Vice President Shettima Calls for United Front Against Nigeria’s Insecurity Crisis
Vice President Kashim Shettima has emphasized that the persistent security challenges facing Nigeria demand a unified national response, stressing that violent attacks do not differentiate between religion, ethnicity, or social status.
Dependable NG reports that Shettima delivered the statement on Thursday at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting on regional development organized by the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), which is under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in Abuja.
Represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hadejia, the Vice President maintained that when weapons are deployed by those threatening the nation’s peace, they do not discriminate between individuals, farmers, or other civilians.
According to Shettima, the present administration inherited significant security challenges upon assuming office, compelling it to adopt a coordinated approach. This strategy, he explained, is focused not only on tackling current threats but also on ensuring the country’s long-term peace and stability. He urged every person and organization involved in governance to play their part in this major mission of national restoration. “A bullet or a bomb knows neither ethnicity nor religion. When it is fired by the enemies of our collective peace, it does not discriminate,” he asserted. “It kills the farmer and the trader alike, and it destroys the very fabric of our multifaceted, multi-religious, and multi-ethnic society in a devastating and retrogressive manner.”
