Triumph Over Trauma: Plateau Government Rescues 16 Children Being Trafficked to Anambra

The Plateau State Government, through its Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, has successfully intercepted and rescued sixteen children who were being trafficked from the Bassa Local Government Area of the state to Anambra State.
The Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Caroline Dafur, announced the successful operation in a statement in Jos on Saturday. The rescued children are minors, ranging in age from four to nine years old.
According to the Commissioner, security personnel rescued the children as they were being conveyed to a motor park for the final leg of their journey to their intended destination in Anambra.
During a ceremony at the J.D. Gomwalk Secretariat in Jos, the children were formally handed over to their respective families and community representatives.
The Commissioner confirmed that the suspects behind the “dastardly act” have been arrested and will face prosecution after a comprehensive investigation is completed.
Dafur hailed the rescue as a pivotal moment in the state’s efforts against child trafficking, reaffirming the commitment of the Governor Caleb Mutfwang administration to protecting the rights of vulnerable citizens.
“This rescue represents triumph over trauma, resilience, and hope restored in a world where the innocence of childhood should be protected,” Dafur stated. She urged the public to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
“If you see something, say something. Together, we can put an end to child trafficking in Plateau State,” she pleaded with the public.
Receiving the children on behalf of the Bassa LGA chairman, Mrs. Miriam Riti assured that measures have been put in place to ensure the children’s full well-being, including medical checks, school enrollment, and consistent monitoring through community leaders.
