Tinubu Nominates Ex-CDS Christopher Musa as Defence Minister

President Bola Tinubu has formally nominated former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa, retired, as the new Minister of Defence. This move comes swiftly after the resignation of the previous minister.

Dependable NG reports that the nomination was conveyed in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. Gen. Musa is slated to succeed Alhaji Mohammed Badaru, who stepped down from the role on Monday.

Gen. Musa held the prestigious position of Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 until October 2025. During his distinguished military career, he earned notable recognition, including the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012.

Born in Sokoto in 1967, Christopher Musa completed his primary and secondary education in the state before advancing to the College of Advanced Studies in Zaria. He graduated in 1986 and subsequently enrolled at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in the same year. Upon graduating from the NDA in 1991, he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree.
