Take It Back Movement Issues Ultimatum to Tinubu: Release Omoyele Sowore or Face Nationwide Mass Protests
The civil advocacy group, Take It Back Movement (TIB), has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, demanding the immediate release of activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, who was recently arrested by the Nigeria Police Force. The TIB is threatening to mobilise a nationwide mass protest if their demand is not met without delay.
Dependable NG reports that the threat comes in the wake of Sowore’s arrest on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. His detention followed his involvement in a protest on Monday that called for the release of the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu. The police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest, stating that Sowore was taken into custody for leading the protest into restricted areas, thereby violating a standing court order.
In a statement signed by its coordinator, Sanyaolu Juwon, the Take It Back Movement reacted sharply to the arrest, condemning it as a harassment tactic. The group stated, “We wish to categorically warn that any form of detention, harassment, or intimidation of Sowore by the NPF or any arm of the Tinubu regime will be met with an immediate, nationwide mass action.”
The TIB concluded its warning with a clear ultimatum: “Let it be clearly known: if Sowore is not released immediately and unconditionally, the Take It Back Movement, alongside progressive organisations across the country, will mobilise citizens for sustained protests and civil disobedience actions until he regains his freedom.”
