Step Down for Peter Obi: Obidient Movement Appeals to Goodluck Jonathan for 2027

The Obidient Movement has publicly appealed to former President Goodluck Jonathan to support Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election rather than contest against him. This call comes after Obi and Jonathan held a private meeting in Abuja.Obi shared photos from the meeting on his social media, describing Jonathan as “a very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader” and noting that their discussion focused on the “state of the nation.”
Despite persistent speculation about a potential run for the presidency in 2027, Jonathan has yet to make a formal public declaration. However, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, urged the former president to “step aside” for Obi in the interest of national progress.Tanko stated that while both men are respected leaders, Obi remains the preferred choice of many Nigerians who are looking for a new direction. “It would be great if Jonathan remains the respected statesman he is known for,” Tanko said. “He has done his best as President, he is respected, and this is the time for him to support his brother.”
