Sokoto Assembly Approves N38.8 Billion Budget Virement for Key Projects

The Sokoto State Assembly has approved a significant budget virement, reallocating N38.8 billion to bolster critical infrastructure projects and social services across the state. The motion, a further amendment to the 2025 Appropriation Bill, was submitted by Governor Ahmed Aliyu and received unanimous legislative backingThe approval followed a detailed presentation by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation. The committee’s vice chairman, Kabiru Ibrahim, explained that the strategic reallocation was essential for redirecting funds from less critical areas to ongoing projects that are vital for the state’s development.Supporting the governor’s request, the assembly’s leader, Bello Idris, underscored the necessity of the adjustment to accommodate a number of viable projects currently underway. Fellow lawmaker Abubakar Shehu echoed this sentiment, describing the amendment as a clear demonstration of the administration’scommitment to enhancing the welfare and living standards of its citizens.

Following deliberations, Speaker Tukur Bala called for a voice vote, which saw the lawmakers unanimously adopt the motion. In a separate but related development, the assembly also passed two bills to amend the laws governing the College of Nursing Science, Tambuwal, and the Sultan Abdulrahman College of Health Technology, Gwadabawa.
