Seven Killed in Katsina Bandit Ambush on Dandume Village

An ambush by suspected bandits has tragically claimed at least seven lives in Magajin Wando village, located in the Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State. The State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Danmusa, confirmed the incident, revealing that the attack was a retaliatory strike targeting the community.

The assault, which occurred on Friday night, came as a reprisal by criminals seeking to avenge the deaths of their members. The bandits had previously been repelled by the brave efforts of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (CWC). In the aftermath, a vehicle evacuating injured residents to the hospital was ambushed by a separate group of the bandits, who opened fire and set the CWC vehicle ablaze. Despite the intense exchange, the CWC members managed to fight back and escape to safety.

Dr. Danmusa commended the swift and courageous response of the Community Watch Corps, stating that their intervention prevented what could have been a far more devastating outcome for the residents. He extended the government’s deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and offered prayers for the rapid recovery of the injured.

The state government has restated its commitment to intensifying security operations across Katsina. Dr. Danmusa pledged to work closely with the military, police, and other security agencies to dismantle the criminal networks responsible for the attacks. He called on all residents to remain vigilant and to promptly share any information with security forces to support ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security in the state.
