Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has issued a strong cautionary message regarding the current administration, stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu carries a historic burden to steer Nigeria toward a positive future. He explicitly warned that if the President does not succeed in delivering on his mandate, it could cripple the chances for any future Nigerian president to achieve success.

Dependable NG reports that speaking during an interview on TVC, Sani described Tinubu’s tenure as a defining, pivotal moment in Nigeria’s political history. He stressed that the President has a “unique opportunity to reshape and reconfigure the destiny of this country,” and that his ultimate performance will either strengthen or irrevocably weaken the nation’s political bedrock. “If President Bola Tinubu fails, I don’t think it will be easy for any other president to succeed,” the former lawmaker cautioned, underscoring the high stakes of the current period.

Sani also offered crucial advice on governance, urging the President to prioritise merit and competence over political affiliations in his appointments, drawing a parallel to the standard set during Tinubu’s time as Lagos State governor. He asserted that the model of bringing the “best people to lead” in Lagos must be replicated and applied nationwide.

Furthermore, the former senator lamented the deeply toxic and divisive nature of Nigerian politics, observing that the ruling class and the opposition view each other as outright adversaries rather than constructive partners in national progress. He said, “Our politics is so toxic that those in government see the opposition as enemies, while those outside power see the government as an enemy.” Sani concluded by calling on the President to implement bold, reform-driven decisions, even those that may prove unpopular, emphasising that national progress demands vision and sacrifice. “No country dropped from heaven. China, Singapore, Indonesia—they all paid the price for progress,” he added, insisting that Tinubu’s management of this crucial period will ultimately determine if Nigeria moves towards recovery or remains mired in political and economic stagnation.
