Senate to Screen Prof. Joash Amupitan for Chairman Role on Thursday

The Nigerian Senate has scheduled the screening of Professor Joash Amupitan for the position of Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Thursday, October 16, 2025.

Dependable NG reports that the development follows the official nomination of Prof. Amupitan by President Bola Tinubu and the subsequent unanimous endorsement of his appointment by the Council of State to lead the nation’s electoral body.

The plan for the screening was disclosed in a notice issued by Bullah Audu Bi-Allah, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary, Research and Information.

The notice confirms that lawmakers will conduct the crucial screening exercise in the Senate chamber. President Tinubu had formally requested the Senate’s confirmation of Amupitan as the new INEC Chairman on Tuesday.
