The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed the nomination of former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Christopher Musa, as the new Minister of Defence following an extensive five-hour grilling session with the lawmakers on Wednesday.

Dependable NG reports that the confirmation followed a period of tension, as some senators initially opposed a proposal to exempt the former Chief of Defence Staff and ministerial nominee from being questioned.

The debate began when the Senator representing Niger East, Sani Musa, suggested that the nominee should be allowed to simply “take a bow and go,” a courtesy often extended to former colleagues or high-ranking government officials.

Despite the initial friction, the Senate proceeded with the rigorous screening process before ultimately confirming General Musa’s appointment as the new Minister of Defence. The screening commenced earlier on Wednesday.
