Popular Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, widely known by his stage name Sabinus, has disclosed the initial strong opposition he faced from his father regarding his career choice, revealing that his dad actually regretted funding his university education once he discovered his son had become a skit maker.

Dependable NG reports that Sabinus shared this personal story in a candid interview with VJ Adams. The comedian explained that his father had high professional hopes for him, specifically desiring him to become a lawyer. After failing to secure admission into the law program, Sabinus eventually opted to study Linguistics and Communication Studies at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

“After I graduated, my dad never knew I was a comedian because I was hiding it. It was one more year after school that he started seeing me on comedy show posters. My sisters confirmed to him that I was into comedy. He was very furious. He fumed, ‘Which comedy? Stupid business. Look at the boy I sent to become a lawyer.’”
