Rice Trailer Catches Fire on Numan-Yola Road
A trailer fully loaded with bags of rice caught fire on Thursday along the Numan axis of the critical Numan-Yola road in Adamawa State. The devastating blaze immediately brought traffic to a complete standstill, causing a massive gridlock in the area.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that vehicular movement was paralyzed for approximately two hours along the highway. The Numan-Yola road is a vital artery, serving as the key link connecting nearly all of Adamawa State to the rest of the country.
Adamu Bappa, one of the local residents who rushed to assist in putting out the inferno, confirmed the difficulty of the operation. He said it required considerable effort and time from villagers in the vicinity to offload the rice cargo amidst thick smoke pouring from the burning vehicle.
Bappa added that he and the other volunteers worked quickly and managed to salvage a significant portion of the goods. They were able to successfully recover about 400 bags of rice from the estimated 500 bags the lorry was transporting before the fire spread further. The quick response from the local community prevented a total loss.
