Prominent Plateau State-based clergy, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has cried out over sinister plots to eliminate him for daring to release a video where Christians are killed in the state to support claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria, especially in Plateau. Rev Dachomo, who is Regional Chairman for the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi, had on October 15th, stirred major controversy during a mass burial he conducted for 13 people who were killed in an attack carried out by suspected Fulani militants in Rachas village of Heipang District and Rawuru village in Fan District, both in the council.

Dependable NG reports that during the burial, Rev. Dachomo had made a live video where he openly accused the Fulani of carrying out the killing and insisted that it was an orchestrated plan to wipe out the Christian community in Plateau as well as Northern Nigeria. He had also supported claims that the killing of his church members was part of a Christian genocide despite strong denials by the Nigerian government and various official bodies. However, as a result of the video and his insistence that there is an ongoing Christian genocide, especially in Plateau State, Rev. Dachomo has cried out that he has been receiving threats to his life. The cleric, who raised the alarm while speaking with journalists in Jos on Friday, said his life is in grave danger as he has been marked for elimination as a result of his stance against the killing of Christians.

“My life is in grave danger. Even as I speak, I am on the lookout for attacks. I no longer sleep with my eyes closed. I have been attacked before but escaped. My grandmother was killed, and her heart was removed. My uncle was also killed,” the man of God disclosed. He added that the threats have been coming from all sorts of people, including the military authorities, who believe he had indicted them for refusing to act on an intelligence report he had raised of impending attacks on some communities in Barkin Ladi. “They have been threatening me everywhere, even on social media. They even threatened to kill me during mass burials. They did the same to Senator Gyang Dantong; he was killed during a burial. They have vowed to kill me. Even the Nigerian Army issued a press release against me, accusing me of inciting people. But they are the ones inciting the Muslims against us by refusing to make arrests,” he stated.

The clergyman admitted that the continuous threat has forced his community to resort to self-defence, adding, “This is what we are facing, and we have now resorted to self-defence; otherwise, the name of Jesus will not be mentioned again in our land. I want the world to know that we are going through the worst, as Jesus said, ‘You will be persecuted.’ So, we are keeping records of what we are passing through, just as the Bible kept records of what Christians endured,” he added. The outspoken clergy stressed that he had received many death threats through phone calls and messages, but emphasized that he is not afraid of death and will continue to speak truth to power and defend his people. Speaking on the video that has now become a reference point to the death threats, Rev. Dachomo said he made the video for record-keeping so that future generations will be able to see how they were terrorized and persecuted. He sees the video as evidence that a Christian genocide is indeed going on in the North, and it is also meant to guide Christians in soul-winning and strengthen their faith against persecution. The Reverend noted a clear difference in the official response, stating, “If it were Christians attacking Muslims, the entire military would rise against us, invade our villages, and make mass arrests. Before you are released, you must pay a lot of money,” he concluded.
