President Tinubu Inaugurates Seven Major Projects at University of Ilorin Convocation
President Bola Tinubu has officially commissioned seven newly completed infrastructural projects at the University of Ilorin (Unilorin), as part of the activities marking the institution’s 40th convocation ceremonies. The inauguration ceremony highlighted the administration’s commitment to advancing education and infrastructural development across the nation, aligning with his Renewed Hope Agenda.
The wide-ranging commissioned projects include the new Faculty of Social Sciences Building, a block of four Lecture Halls intended for use by the Faculties of Social Sciences and Management Sciences, and the Department of English Drama Studio housed within the Faculty of Arts. Furthermore, the President inaugurated the Renovated Blocks 1–10, the newly Renovated Department of Geography and Environmental Management Building, the Remodelled Unilorin Innovation Hub, and the Technical Entrepreneurship Centre Road.
Speaking at the event, President Tinubu, who was represented by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, stated that the new facilities underscored the essential nature of a genuine university system dedicated to serving humanity. Dependable NG reports that the President seized the opportunity to encourage all Nigerians to maintain faith in the Renewed Hope Agenda, urging support for ongoing efforts “to move the country from grass to grace.” He specifically charged the university authorities to ensure proper maintenance and diligent monitoring of the new facilities.
The President also offered commendation to the Vice Chancellor of Unilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and his management team for their dedication to transforming the university and ensuring its vision aligns closely with national development goals. In parallel remarks, the Chancellor of the University and Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumin Kabir Usman, who was represented by the Waziri of Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Idah, lauded Unilorin’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and fostering a conducive learning environment. The Emir described the commissioned projects as “worthwhile initiatives” that are certain to enhance teaching, learning, and research, noting that the University’s strong focus on skill development will adequately prepare students for life beyond the academic setting. In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Egbewole, expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for both honouring the institution’s invitation and consistently supporting its infrastructural growth, assuring stakeholders, “We remain committed to continuous improvement and will ensure the University grows stronger and better each day.” The commissioning ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the University’s Pro-Chancellor, Surveyor Abiodun Jacob Aluko, Principal Officers of the University, and a host of well-wishers.
