The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Northern Nigeria has released a moving tribute following the death of the renowned evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai.

Northern CAN described the late cleric as a true “preacher without borders,” whose massive “One Million Man Crusades” were instrumental in igniting spiritual revival, healing, and fostering faith across Northern Nigeria and the rest of the nation.

Dependable NG reports that in a heartfelt condolence message signed by its Chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, Northern CAN explained that the evangelist’s ministry successfully transformed lives and bolstered faith across various denominational divides, noting that his passion for evangelism and Christian unity has left an indelible mark.

Rev. Hayab highlighted that the late Dr. Ukpai frequently visited Northern Nigeria for his highly publicised crusades, which consistently recorded significant attendance, witnessed numerous miracles, and resulted in massive conversions to Christ. He insisted that the spiritual benefits of these campaigns in the northern region “remain evident,” confirming his status as a preacher who broke national barriers.

Hayab also recalled a memorable instance where the late Ukpai was warmly received by the then Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, a gesture which reflected the evangelist’s widespread acceptance and moral influence throughout the country.

Lamenting the loss, the Northern CAN Chairman stated that the North, and indeed Nigeria, has lost a respected servant of God whose compelling voice of faith and hope will be greatly missed. The association encouraged believers not to mourn in despair, but to rejoice that Uma Ukpai “finished well and has gone to be with the Lord,” having served faithfully. The association extended its profound condolences to the Ukpai family, the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, and the entire Christian body.
