Peter Obi’s Staunch Supporter, Mama P, Detained by Police in Edo Amidst Labour Party Factional Feud

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the detention of popular activist Precious Oruche, widely known as Mama P, a committed supporter of the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Mama P was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Edo State Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters, located off Sapele road in Benin City.
The detention was first made public by the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
“Mama P has been detained at state CID @ Edo State Police Headquarters, off Sapele road, Benin City,” Tanko wrote.
He further announced that the movement’s legal team was being deployed immediately to secure her release and called for urgent support from the public.
“I have just spoken to our legal Director to deploy lawyers to her rescue. We want more people to come for her rescue. Lawyers and all concerned should please mount immediately. We need everyone’s support for her NOW,” the statement concluded.
The incident follows unconfirmed reports regarding a recent altercation involving Mama P and the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, suggesting the arrest may be linked to the ongoing internal crisis within the party.
