Peter Obi Labels Internet Fraudsters as ‘Geniuses’ Who Should Be Guided to Innovation
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has shared a controversial viewpoint on internet fraudsters, popularly known as ‘Yahoo boys’, asserting that some of them possess a genius-level intellect that currently lacks proper guidance. Obi argued that these individuals are fundamentally creative, capable of contributing significantly to innovation and national development if their talents were correctly channeled, rather than being met solely with condemnation.
Speaking at an event in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Saturday, Obi took the opportunity to redefine true prosperity. He noted that while currency is essential, genuine wealth is built upon a foundation of integrity, strong character, and purpose. Dependable NG reports that the former governor emphasized that wealth should serve a societal function, working to uplift individuals and the community by boosting education, alleviating poverty, and creating avenues for others to lead dignified lives.
“Some of our so-called Yahoo boys are geniuses who need redirection, not condemnation,” Obi stated in his address. He went on to explain his conviction, saying, “Their creativity and courage, if properly guided, can drive innovation and national development.” Obi concluded his commentary by emphasizing the positive societal role of real affluence: “Real wealth uplifts both the individual and society, promotes education, reduces poverty, and creates opportunities for others to live dignified lives.”
