Over 5,000 Independent Observers Deployed by IPN for Critical Anambra Guber Poll
A socio political group, the Igbo Political Network (IPN), has announced the mobilization and deployment of over 5,000 independent observers (IOs) to monitor and report any act of irregularities during the Anambra State Governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Dependable NG reports that the IPN views the forthcoming governorship polls as a historical political event in the South East region, emphasizing that it must not be treated lightly by relevant authorities and critical stakeholders in favor of any particular candidate.
President of the Igbo Political Network (IPN), Alex Okemiri, stated in Abakaliki on Tuesday that all eyes are on Anambra State for the election, which he described as epochal in the state and the entire Igbo land. He stressed that political leaders from Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo States are all interested in the election, seeing it as a major test on the political history of the Igbo people. Okemiri affirmed that all hands must be on deck to ensure a free and fair exercise, which is the core reason for deploying the extensive network of observers.
Okemiri noted the IPN’s long standing commitment to protecting the political and economic interests of Igbos since 2015, ensuring political activities are conducted fairly to better the lot of the people. He asserted that the group is known for promoting peace and a political level playing field, working to ensure votes count, eradicate political thuggery, and prevent external political manipulation. He acknowledged the huge resources required for accommodation, transportation, and other logistics for the 5,000 observers but confirmed the mobilization is fully funded from individual coffers due to the premium Ndigbo attach to the election.
The IPN President also issued a clear mandate to the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, urging him to shun favoritism and ensure that all votes count in the election. Okemiri reminded the new INEC boss that the Anambra polls sign post his first major primary national assignment, serving as an integrity test ahead of the 2027 general elections. He urged Prof. Amupitan to be honest, unbiased, and transparent in his conduct, warning that Nigerians are on edge and that any act of political corruption could inflame anger or violence in the land.
Finally, Okemiri appealed to all security agencies to conduct themselves professionally and ethically amid the high expectations for the forthcoming polls, emphasizing that the IPN is prepared to halt every act of vote buying and intimidation during the electoral exercise.
