Over 1,500 PDP Members Cross Over to APC in Kebbi

More than 1,500 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Zuru Emirate in Kebbi State have officially defected and joined the ranks of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dependable NG reports that the mass defection ceremony took place on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, where the defectors were formally received by the state APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru.

Kana-Zuru attributed this significant political shift to the impressive performance of the state government. He argued that the visible development projects carried out across the emirate played a major role in influencing the decision of these supporters. Specifically, he highlighted the ongoing construction of the Koko–Dabai–Zuru road as a key achievement, and he assured the new entrants that they would be treated with fairness and equality within the party structure.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alhaji Lawali Riba, a former PDP House of Assembly candidate, stated that the decision to defect was prompted by recent positive events in the state. He particularly cited the coordinated and successful rescue of abducted students from the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, as a sign of courageous and result-driven leadership.

However, another defector, Arzika Riba, used the opportunity to criticize some aides of the current administration. He described their performance as slow and urged them to step up their commitment to reflect the pace of the Governor. Additionally, two female defectors from the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, Binta Bena and Hajiya Maryam, confirmed that the opposition PDP had lost its political relevance and footing in their local area.
