Otti Pledges Focus on Security to GOC
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has assured the newly posted General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, that his administration places the highest priority on the security of Abia citizens, regardless of the significant financial cost involved. The Governor emphasized this commitment during a courtesy visit on Thursday.
The new GOC, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, who is based in Enugu, paid a familiarization visit to the Governor at the Abia State Government House.
Governor Otti noted that maintaining security requires a substantial financial outlay to sustain operations. However, he stressed that any investment made in an environment where the safety of lives and property is not prioritized is destined to fail.
“We also know that security costs a lot of money, so we spare no effort in ensuring that our people are secured,” Governor Otti stated.
He further argued that economic growth depends entirely on public safety. The Governor added, “If people cannot sleep with their two eyes closed, no matter how much investment you put in, nobody will patronize it.”
The Governor pledged the maximum cooperation and full support of the state government to the GOC. He urged Major General Fadairo to personally visit all Army locations and battalions operating within Abia State.
Earlier, Major General Fadairo, who also serves as the Commander of the South-East Joint Task Force, “Operation Udoka,” assured Governor Otti that he would draw on his extensive experience to combat insecurity and criminality.
Fadairo revealed his deep familiarity with the region, noting, “I served here as a young officer, and I think I know all the nooks and corners in this general area.” He expressed confidence that his prior knowledge would be a “blessing to the operation.”
The GOC solicited continued support from the Abia State Government and its people. He concluded by thanking Governor Otti for the administration’s existing and continuous support for all security agencies operating within the state.
