“Only Ourselves to Blame” – Slot Slams Liverpool After 3-3 Draw at Leeds

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has placed the blame squarely on his own team for throwing away another two Premier League points after a dramatic 3-3 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.

Dependable NG reports that the Reds twice held a commanding lead in the six-goal thriller, first going 2-0 up through a quickfire double from Hugo Ekitike. Even after Leeds leveled the score at 2-2, Dominik Szoboszlai restored Liverpool’s advantage in the 80th minute.

However, Liverpool’s vulnerability from set pieces proved costly once more when substitute Ao Tanaka fired in from a corner deep into the sixth minute of stoppage time, snatching a point for the hosts.

The result continues an alarming slump for the reigning champions, who have now won just two of their last 10 Premier League games, putting Slot under increasing pressure despite winning the title in his debut season.

Slot expressed his frustration, pointing to the recurring errors: “It is not the first time we drop points, not the first time we concede a goal in the last minute, or we concede a goal from a set piece. The only ones to blame are ourselves.”

He stressed that their attacking output should have been enough for victory: “If you score three goals, it should be enough to win a game, especially when we don’t concede many chances.”

Slot caused further controversy by leaving club legend Mohamed Salah on the bench for the third consecutive game and choosing not to introduce the Egyptian winger as a substitute, even with the game on the line. The manager defended the decision, saying: “Today it felt to me we needed different players to bring the win over the line.”

With Salah set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after Liverpool’s next two matches (against Inter Milan and Brighton), Slot refused to be drawn on the Egyptian’s long-term future, simply concluding: “We have to accept the situation we are in. The short-term future of Mo is that he goes to the AFCON.”
