The Ogun State Water Corporation has issued a major caution to all residents against engaging in illegal water connections, meter bypasses, and any fraudulent activities that are significantly draining the state’s revenue. The corporation has emphatically warned that anyone caught will face the full weight of the law, including heavy financial penalties. Dependable NG reports that the agency, operating under the Special Adviser on SDGs and Water Resources, officially announced the immediate start of Operation SWEEP, an aggressive, state-wide enforcement campaign aimed at stamping out these illicit practices. The public statement made it clear that individuals found culpable of unauthorized tap-downs or meter tampering “will face strict sanctions and heavy fines” and must immediately cease these acts. The corporation further stressed that the government is determined to stop losing “vital revenue due to illicit and sharp practices,” stating, “We are coming to the neighborhoods, consider this a final warning.” Furthermore, the corporation is enforcing two stringent policies: all customers owing above ₦300,000 will have their water supply disconnected unless they settle their debts in full or agree to an approved installment arrangement, and the Use or Lose policy will be strictly implemented, meaning any customer whose water meter has not been vended in the last three to six months will forfeit the meter to “active, compliant customers.” The statement concluded by urging all consumers to vend regularly and to pay their outstanding bills to avoid disconnection or penalties.
