Ogun State: 75 Clinics Revamped, Hundreds of Workers Re-Trained

The Ogun State Government has reiterated its strong commitment to overhauling its healthcare delivery system through the Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) Project, an initiative that officials confirm is already yielding significant dividends for communities throughout the state.
Dependable NG reports that the state’s efforts to bolster its primary healthcare infrastructure are extensive, with the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, detailing key achievements at the 2026 IMPACT Annual Work Plan Retreat held in Abeokuta on Monday. The Commissioner, represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, announced that a total of 75 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) are currently undergoing comprehensive revamping, with 236 health facilities successfully transitioned to digital operations. Furthermore, a substantial investment in human capital has been made, seeing 472 health workers re-trained in critical areas such as data management and essential safety standards. Dr. Coker stated that “These numbers represent real impact; lives saved, healthier communities, and stronger systems.” The state has demonstrated long-term planning by doubling its health budget, ensuring that these vital healthcare reforms continue long after donor support concludes, integrating them into routine government operations.
The IMPACT Project, which is a collaborative, World Bank-supported initiative implemented alongside the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), remains acutely focused on its mission to reduce both maternal and child mortality rates. Dr. Kofoworola Olajide, the State Project Manager for IMPACT, highlighted the project’s success in her welcome remarks, urging stakeholders at the retreat to maintain a strategic and collaborative focus on the forthcoming 2026 Work Plan, which will concentrate on five core areas to deepen progress across the state. In acknowledging the administration’s resolve, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, the Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Primary Healthcare Development Board, commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his unwavering support, noting that the Governor’s “giant strides” have established a solid foundation for improved health outcomes, especially at the grassroots level of primary healthcare delivery. The chairperson of Health Secretaries, Dr. Atinuke Duze, lauded the project’s growth across the local government areas and pledged continued delivery of quality, accessible healthcare services.
