Obidient Movement Demands Police Probe of Alleged Abure-Sponsored Attack on Activist Mama P

The Obidient Movement has publicly alleged that the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, was behind a recent attack on one of its prominent members, activist Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P. The movement is now calling for a full investigation by the nation’s security agencies.

The movement’s call comes after an incident on Saturday where LP’s spokesman, Ifoh, alleged that Mama P had verbally attacked Abure during a flight from the Abuja Airport to Benin, Edo State. Following this encounter, Mama P, a staunch supporter of LP’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was reportedly detained and subsequently remanded at the Edo State Police Command.

In a strongly worded statement signed on Sunday, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, denounced the incident as shameful and dangerous. Tanko categorically accused Abure of resorting to violence.

“We are compelled to alert Nigerians and the international community to a shameful and dangerous development,” Tanko wrote. “Julius Abure, rather than conducting himself as a responsible citizen, has resorted to thuggery and violence by sending armed hoodlums after Mama P, a revered social activist and one of the pillars of our movement.”

Tanko described the alleged act as “barbaric,” calling it “an insult to womanhood, a desecration of our democratic values, and proof that Abure has abandoned any claim to integrity.” He further stated that unleashing thugs on the activist was “cowardly” and exposed the “bankruptcy of his character and the emptiness of his political vision.”

The movement asserted that attempts at intimidation would not work. “We state categorically that no amount of intimidation, harassment, or violence will silence Mama P or the millions she represents. Instead, Abure’s actions only deepen the resolve of Nigerians to resist tyranny in whatever form it comes,” the statement read.

The Obidient Movement made a direct appeal to the nation’s top security official: “We are calling on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and all relevant security agencies to immediately investigate this crime and ensure that those who carried out and sponsored the attack are brought to justice. Violence must never be allowed to take root as a tool of politics in Nigeria.”

Concluding the statement, Tanko declared Abure unfit for leadership, stating, “Julius Abure has proven himself unfit to lead, unfit to inspire, and unfit to represent the values of a new Nigeria. His thuggery is a stain on our democracy and a slap on the faces of all Nigerians who still believe in fairness, justice, and peace. We stand with Mama P. We stand with truth. And we declare once more that no amount of violence will derail the march to a New Nigeria.”
