NYCN Advises Youths to Avoid ‘Free Nnamdi Kanu’ Protest

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has issued a strong warning, urging Nigerian youths to abstain from participating in the planned “Free Nnamdi Kanu” protest scheduled for Monday, October 20, 2025. The youth body cited significant security and legal risks associated with the demonstration.
Dependable NG reports that the caution was issued in a statement released on Saturday by Barr. Buhari Shehu, Chairman of the NYCN Interim Management Committee. The committee expressed grave concern that the protest has the potential to lead to a breakdown of law and order, which could endanger both lives and property across the nation.
The NYCN statement specifically highlighted two major concerns that informed their caution. Firstly, they claimed to have information that the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Nigerian Police Force, has successfully obtained an Order of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which restrains the organisers and participants from carrying out or participating in the planned protest.
Secondly, the youth council cited a security warning issued by the United States Embassy in Abuja, which had advised its nationals in Nigeria to avoid the planned protest locations. The NYCN used this advisory as a precautionary measure to underscore the ‘potential risks’ involved.
“The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Interim Management Committee, wishes to bring to the attention of all Nigerian youths a planned protest scheduled for October 20th, 2025,” the statement read. “In light of this development, we urge all Nigerian youths to exercise restraint and stay out of trouble.”
The council implored Nigerian youths to prioritise peace, stability, and national security, urging them to explore alternative and lawful means of expressing their grievances and demands. The statement concluded with a patriotic call to action: “We have no other country and place to live than Nigeria and we all must come together to safeguard our dear nation. Stay Safe, Stay Informed!”
