In a bold move to address Nigeria’s pervasive kidnapping crisis, Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has publicly advocated for the immediate and visible enforcement of capital punishment for convicted kidnappers.

Dependable NG reports that the actor shared a video on his Instagram page where he voiced deep frustration over the failure of the Nigerian government to enforce existing laws on the death penalty for this grievous crime. He strongly argued that the lack of definitive and public consequences is what continues to empower criminals to operate with impunity, especially as the festive season—a period often marked by a spike in criminal activity—approaches.

Uchemba proposed a radical solution, suggesting that there should be a dedicated television channel solely for broadcasting the arrest and public execution of convicted kidnappers. His stance is rooted in the belief that such decisive and public justice would serve as a powerful deterrent and restore the public’s shaken confidence in the criminal justice system.

He referenced China, which maintains the death penalty for serious offenses like corruption and kidnapping, as an example of a nation where strict consequences contribute to a lower crime rate. He stressed that although the law currently prescribes death for kidnapping, the public rarely hears about the fate of the offenders after they are arrested.

The actor’s insistence is that the authorities must act decisively and enforce firm, public consequences to combat the alarming rise in abductions plaguing the country.
