Nollywood veteran Chiwetalu Agu has firmly put to rest circulating reports of his demise, assuring his fans and family that he is very much alive and well. The actor took to his Instagram account on Friday, where he shared a video directly addressing the false claims and urging his followers to report the social media pages responsible for spreading the misinformation.

In the video, Agu, known for his unique and memorable characters, expressed his disappointment with the malicious rumors. He stated, “Chief Chiwetalu Agu, okenmiri n’ezoru Oha 1 of Etiti Amokwe, Enugu State is not going to die anytime soon. Instead, I will be the one to bury my enemies.” He added a powerful cultural proverb, saying, “Na who dig pit go fall inside. Na who dig grave go fall inside,” as a warning to those who wished him ill. He also shared a personal ambition, noting that he is “yet to carry my grandchildren” and intends to do so in good health.

Agu did not mince words when discussing the motivations behind the hoax. He revealed that he considered taking legal action against the perpetrators but decided against it, citing the blogger’s lack of influence. “If it were any of the big bloggers who carried the false information, I would have sued them for defamation, economic and business damage,” he said. He added that the person responsible was “still struggling with likes,” implying their lack of reach and credibility did not warrant a lawsuit. This incident, however, underscores a troubling trend within the Nigerian entertainment space. Over the years, many prominent figures, including veteran actors Olu Jacobs, Pete Edochie, and others, have been victims of similar death hoaxes perpetuated by unverified social media accounts. These false reports not only cause unnecessary distress to the actors’ families and fans but also highlight the alarming ease with which misinformation can spread in the digital age.

Agu’s message was a stern caution against the gullibility of a public that is quick to share unverified news. He ended his video by urging fans to always confirm reports before believing them, emphasizing that such falsehoods are the work of individuals seeking cheap virality at the expense of others’ well-being. For the many Nigerians who have grown up watching his films, the actor’s direct and unapologetic response was a reassuring sign that their beloved screen icon remains vibrant and in good health.
