Nigeria Assures Jonathan’s Safety in Bissau

A senior Nigerian government official has confirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan is safe in Guinea-Bissau, following the military coup that abruptly halted the country’s electoral process. Jonathan had been in Bissau as part of a joint international election observation mission.

The anonymous source, who spoke on Thursday, stated that definitive arrangements are currently underway to facilitate the former President’s return to Nigeria.

The official further disclosed that a multinational task force, which includes Nigerian personnel, is presently stationed in Guinea-Bissau. This force is specifically tasked with ensuring the safety and security of Jonathan and other Nigerian officials currently in the country.
