Niger Police Kill Robbery Suspect

The Niger State Police Command successfully neutralized an armed robbery suspect during a fierce gun exchange with a gang of robbers operating along the Lambata-Maje-Suleja road. The suspect was notable for being dressed in a military uniform when confronted by the police patrol team.

The incident occurred near the Numbawa/Malam-karo point, where the group of criminals had been targeting and ambushing unsuspecting motorists traveling on the highway.

State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the event in a statement. He explained that the operation took place on November 20, 2025, following a credible tip-off regarding the activities of robbers on the busy Lambata-Maje-Suleja road.

During the resulting shootout, one suspect, who was clad in a military uniform, was fatally wounded and neutralized. The remaining members of the gang were forced to flee the scene, believed to have escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

The PRO stated: “The police patrol team engaged the suspects at police check point near Numbawa/Malam-karo, killing one and scattering the others, who fled with gunshot wounds.”

Police authorities disclosed that a number of items were recovered from the scene following the operation. These included an improvised wooden gun, a mobile phone, and a torch light.

Abiodun added that the body of the deceased suspect has been deposited at the Suleja hospital morgue. He confirmed that the area has been thoroughly secured, and normalcy has been swiftly restored on the important road corridor.
