Niger Police Begin Strict Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit Law

The Niger State Police Command has officially commenced the full enforcement of the tinted glass permit regulation, a move personally monitored and supervised by the Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, across the Minna metropolis. This enforcement exercise is part of a nationwide directive aimed at bolstering security and regulating the use of tinted vehicle windows, which authorities state have been abused by criminal elements to conceal their identities and nefarious activities.
Dependable NG reports that the operation, which began on Thursday, saw police officers stationed at strategic checkpoints within the state capital, stopping vehicles with tinted glasses to verify compliance with the law. CP Elleman took the time to interact with deployed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and their personnel, charging them to uphold professionalism and courtesy while remaining firm in ensuring motorists adhere to the regulations.
The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the initial level of cooperation from motorists, noting that the exercise is not punitive but is being undertaken purely for national security reasons. He stressed the importance of obtaining the requisite permit, warning that ignorance of the law would not be tolerated and that vehicles found to be in violation would be impounded and their owners prosecuted under the Motor Vehicle (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004.
Lawmaker Subjected to Check, Commends Police
In a telling display of the law’s impartiality, a member of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abu Adamu Gomna, representing Bosso Constituency, was among the motorists stopped by the police to provide his tinted glass permit.
Speaking to journalists after the check, the lawmaker lauded CP Elleman’s exemplary leadership for personally leading the enforcement. Gomna acknowledged that many people had been abusing the use of tinted glasses and expressed his confidence in the Nigerian Police, stating that he was highly impressed that he was subjected to the same checks as an ordinary citizen, which demonstrated fairness.
The lawmaker added that once people comply with regulations, the chances for criminality to be perpetrated under the disguise of tinted glass would be significantly reduced. CP Elleman concluded by appealing to the public for their continued cooperation and understanding, reassuring residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining law, order, and the overall safety of the state.
