NEMA Receives 153 Nigerian Returnees from Chad Under Voluntary Return Programme
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 153 Nigerian returnees from Chad under the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme (AVRP), which is a joint initiative with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The returnees arrived at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Sunday, October 27, 2025, at about 12:15 pm, aboard an ASKY Airlines flight.
The breakdown of the 153 returnees is as follows: 105 adults (63 males and 42 females), 45 children (25 males and 20 females), and 3 infants (all females).
Upon arrival, officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric registration and documentation for accurate profiling and smooth reintegration. The returnees were immediately provided with humanitarian assistance as part of the government’s commitment to a safe and dignified return. This assistance included food, potable water, medical care and ambulance services, luggage handling, logistics support, and counseling services. The operation was jointly coordinated with the IOM and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).
