NDLEA, Kano Security Forces Arrest 57 Suspects in Drug and Thuggery Crackdown
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), operating in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, has announced the arrest of 57 individuals following a series of joint raids targeting drug-related offenses and thuggery across Kano State. This operation is a key component of the state government’s intensified campaign to tackle substance abuse and crime.
The targeted, three-day operation was carried out across September 24, 25, and 27, 2025. It was coordinated under the umbrella of the Kano State Joint Taskforce for Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation, which aims to create a safer environment and address the root causes of youth restiveness in the state.
The joint forces conducted raids in several known hot spots within the metropolis, including Kofar Ruwa, Tashar Rami, Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna, Mil Tara, Zage, Dorayi Karshen Waya, Dawanau, and Filin Idi. During these successful raids, officers seized various types of illegal drugs and recovered several locally made weapons, which are typically associated with thuggery and violent crime. Authorities confirmed that investigations into the arrested suspects are still ongoing and will lead to prosecution for those found culpable.
The task force is led by Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, who also serves as the state’s Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation. Dr. Kofar Mata firmly stated, “Our resolve to eradicate drug abuse and associated thuggery in Kano remains unshakeable. We will continue to work tirelessly to create a safer, healthier community for all.”
He highly commended the commitment and dedication of both the NDLEA and police officers involved in the operation. Additionally, he issued a call to action, urging all segments of society to support the ongoing efforts. “I urge community leaders, parents, civil society and members of the public to join hands with security agencies in this effort,” Dr. Kofar Mata added, stressing that public cooperation is essential to sustaining the gains achieved.
Further strengthening the commitment to the anti-narcotics fight, the NDLEA Kano commander expressed gratitude to the Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. The commander noted that the government’s continued backing has been crucial, significantly reinforcing the security and youth rehabilitation efforts currently underway in the state.
