Nationwide Police Manhunt Launched After Official Vehicle Stolen from Force Headquarters, Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force has initiated a nationwide manhunt following the disappearance of one of its official vehicles from the tightly secured Force Headquarters in Abuja, an incident that has raised significant concerns about internal security breaches at the nation’s top policing institution.
The missing vehicle is identified as a Toyota Buffalo Land Cruiser with the specific registration number NPF 5594 D and chassis number JTELU71JX0B027126. It was officially reported stolen on July 28, 2025.
The theft was disclosed through an internal wireless memo, which was circulated by the Commissioner of Police (DFA, Katsina Command) after being relayed from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID). The document confirmed that the sport utility vehicle (SUV) was assigned to the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters, located within the Louis Edet House complex.
A police signal obtained by reporters verified the development and detailed the circumstances of the theft. The signal stated: “The vehicle attached to the Department of Operations, FHQ Abuja, was declared missing/stolen or removed from where parked on 28/07/2025 from the parking lot of FHQ, Louis Edet House, Abuja. Case is under investigation. Grateful disseminate to formations, area commands, and divisions for possible recovery.”
In response to the brazen theft, security officials across Nigeria have been put on high alert. All area commands, divisional police officers (DPOs), and tactical formations nationwide have been instructed to treat the matter as “very important” and to actively search for the missing official vehicle. Furthermore, all security agencies have been mandated to immediately report any and all leads that could assist in locating and recovering the stolen Land Cruiser, which was allegedly removed directly from the official parking lot within the headquarters premises.
