Mass Abduction Hits Kwara Community
A community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, Isapa, has been thrown into panic following a devastating attack by unidentified gunmen who kidnapped multiple residents, including a pregnant woman, ten children, and two nursing mothers. The raid underscores the relentless security challenges facing communities in the region.
Reports indicate that an estimated group of twenty to thirty armed bandits stormed the community. Witnesses described a terrifying scene as the attackers advanced, accompanied by a large herd of cattle, while simultaneously firing their weapons indiscriminately.
The indiscriminate firing during the assault resulted in at least one casualty among the residents, with a stray bullet reportedly striking and wounding an elderly woman.
A leader within the Isapa community confirmed the harrowing incident, disclosing that a total of eleven individuals were forcibly abducted. He highlighted the devastating impact on one local family, noting that seven of the kidnapped victims belong to the same household.
The full list of the abducted individuals has been confirmed, revealing the vulnerable nature of the targets. Among those seized were Talatu Kabiru, Magaji, Kande, Hadiza, Mariam, and Saima.
Also taken were Habibat, identified as a housewife, and Fatima Yusufu, also a housewife. The attackers specifically seized a heavily pregnant woman, Sarah Sunday, and a nursing mother, Lami Fidelis, along with Haja Na Allah.
Following the large-scale abduction, the armed assailants reportedly made their escape through dense bush paths connecting Isapa to the neighboring community of Eruku. This left the remaining residents of Isapa in a state of profound confusion and widespread panic.
This latest violent episode follows closely on the heels of another major security breach in the state. The attack comes barely two weeks after bandits targeted the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in the same local government area, where 38 church members were kidnapped.
That prior incident was marked by further tragedy, with reports indicating that several other individuals tragically died during the church assault.
However, a glimmer of relief was noted as all 38 victims abducted during the previous church incident have since been successfully rescued and reunited with their families.
The renewed attack on Isapa community suggests that criminal elements are not deterred, maintaining a cycle of violence and abductions across Kwara State despite the recent success of the security forces.
