Lagos Task Force Impounds 64 Motorcycles in Renewed Road Clean-up

A task force in Lagos State has ramped up its efforts to enforce traffic regulations, carrying out a comprehensive operation on Monday, October 27, that resulted in the seizure of 64 commercial motorcycles. This action is part of a sustained campaign to restore sanity and ensure safety on Lagos roads.

Dependable NG reports that the state’s Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Transportation, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, confirmed the operation in a statement on Tuesday. She noted that the enforcement extended beyond motorcycles, also targeting the activities of street traders, illegal park operators, and other unlawful activities along major highways and inner routes on the Lagos Mainland.

The extensive clean-up exercise, which began around 11:00 a.m., covered several key areas. These locations included the Ebute Metta Axis, Gbagada-Oshodi Expressway, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos-Badagry Expressway, and the Surulere Local Government/LCDA areas, alongside their adjoining restricted routes.

Enforcement teams specifically combed major arteries such as Apapa Road, Murtala Mohammed Way, Herbert Macaulay Road, Western Avenue, Iganmu Roundabout, Eric Moore Road, Bode Thomas Road, Babs Animashaun, Ogunlana Drive, Itire Link Bridge, Muyiwa Opaleye Street, Odo-Olowu, Gbagada-Anthony Expressway, Ikorodu Road, 2nd Rainbow, and Alakija, among others.

Mrs. Ogunlola stated that the impoundment of the commercial motorcycles ensured the restoration of order and guaranteed free vehicular movement in the affected areas. She emphasized that the Lagos State task force reaffirms the government’s commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment, in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018, which prohibits commercial motorcycles on specific highways and major routes across the state.
