Lagos Approves New LASU Governing Council, Names Ogala Chairman

The Lagos State Government has formally announced the approval of a new Governing Council for the Lagos State University (LASU), a development that signals a renewed commitment by the administration to strengthen the institution’s management and academic quality.

Dependable NG reports that the approval was confirmed in a circular issued on Friday and signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro. The statement detailed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has given his assent to the appointment of an 11-member council which will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and overall governance of the state-owned university. The circular highlighted that the move aligns with the Sanwo-Olu administration’s continuous efforts to enhance the quality of education across all state-owned tertiary institutions.

The newly constituted LASU Governing Council is set to be chaired by Mr. Babatunde Ogala, SAN. He is a distinguished legal practitioner, known also as a capital market consultant and a business recovery expert. His appointment is expected to inject vast legal and corporate governance experience into the council. Mr. Ogala, who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986, previously served as General Legal Adviser for Guardian Press Limited and was also a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly between 2007 and 2011, where he made significant contributions to legislative development.

Other members appointed to the new 11-member council include Oluseyi Badmus, Bode Makanjuola, Mojisola Tolagbe Taiwo, Shaffudeen Amuwo, Rafiu Adisa Ebiti, Kofo Durosimi-Etti, Farouk Gumel, Adenike Akanbi, Biodun Hundeyin, and Remi Desalu. The circular directed all relevant accounting officers to take due note of the development and ensure the information is given adequate publicity across various institutions and departments.
