Kebbi Police Command Debunks Viral Video of Hidden Airport for Cocaine Smuggling
The Kebbi State Police Command has categorically debunked a viral social media report that alleged a retired Assistant Controller of Customs constructed a private airport in the Argungu forest to facilitate the smuggling of cocaine and other illicit drugs into Nigeria.
Dependable NG reports that in a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, vehemently described the circulating report as “false, baseless, and a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of the state and its security agencies.” Abubakar stated that the publication represents a deliberate act of misinformation aimed at creating unnecessary public panic, emboldening criminal elements, and undermining the ongoing security operations being carried out across the state.
The statement read: “The Kebbi State Police Command categorically refutes this mischievous narrative. It is a total fabrication designed to mislead the public and discredit the sustained efforts of our officers in combating crime.” The Command further urged residents of the state to completely disregard the baseless rumour and maintain their vigilance, while simultaneously warning that the propagation of false information could lead to serious negative implications for public peace and overall safety. The command concluded by pledging to continue its collaboration with credible media professionals and platforms to actively counter the spread of fake news and ensure that peace is consistently maintained in the state.
