Kebbi Assembly Approves Governor Idris’ N642.9 Billion 2026 Budget
The Kebbi State House of Assembly on Thursday officially approved the state’s 2026 appropriation bill of N642.9 billion, which was presented to the lawmakers by Governor Nasir Idris on November 27.
Dependable NG reports that the approval followed the presentation of a report by the Joint Committee on Finance and Appropriation and Budget Monitoring, Economic Planning and Due Process.
The Committee Chairman, Adamu Muhammad (APC, Ngaski), while presenting the report, stated that the lawmakers retained the exact budget figures originally submitted by the governor. He explained that the bill, which is tagged “Budget of Growth, Transformation and Physical Development,” was referred to the joint committee after the second reading, and members worked diligently to scrutinize the proposal alongside all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Muhammad confirmed that the committee’s observations did not necessitate any alterations to the total budget size or its breakdown into recurrent and capital components.
He reaffirmed the distribution as follows:
Recurrent Expenditure: N163.57 billion (25% of the total budget)
Capital Expenditure: N479.36 billion (75% of the total budget)
Total Budget Figure: N642.93 billion
The chairman urged members to adopt the report to facilitate further legislative action and ensure its eventual transmission to Governor Idris for assent. The motion for the third reading was subsequently moved by Salisu Maikasuwa (APC, Sakaba) and seconded by Muhammad Garba-Bena (APC, Danko-Wasagu).
Speaker Muhammad Usman-Zuru then put the motion to a voice vote, and the House unanimously approved the budget. He commended the committee for what he described as a thorough job in reviewing the comprehensive proposal.
