Kano: Man Jailed for Eight Months Over Police Impersonation

A Shari’a court in Kano State has handed down an eight-month prison sentence to a 33-year-old man for impersonating a police officer in the Fagge Local Government Area.
The convict, Nasiru Shitu, was apprehended on Sunday, September 21, 2025, while dressed in an illegal police uniform near Kofar Dawanau, a deliberate act of deception that authorities say is capable of undermining the efforts of legitimate law enforcement.
Dependable NG reports that the suspect was arraigned before the Shari’a court by prosecution counsel Barrister Zaharaddeen Mustapha on a charge of impersonation, to which Shitu pleaded guilty, paving the way for the swift judgment.
Presiding Judge Khadi Nasiru Ahmad Muhammad convicted Shitu and sentenced him to eight months in prison. The court, however, provided an alternative to the custodial sentence, allowing the convict to pay a fine of ₦70,000. The case serves as a clear indication of the state’s resolve to curb activities that mislead the public and disrupt security operations. Judge Muhammad concluded the proceedings by issuing a firm warning to all residents against engaging in any acts that could compromise or diminish the authority of law enforcement agencies.
