Kano Governor Demands Immediate Removal of Police Commissioner, Accusing Him of Undermining Authority

The political tension in Kano State has escalated dramatically after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf publicly called for the immediate removal of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. The Governor leveled accusations that the police chief was defying lawful orders and actively undermining his constitutional role as the Chief Security Officer of the state.
Governor Yusuf made the urgent appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a ceremony held at Kofar Mata Stadium to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The Governor expressed his strong displeasure by alleging that police officers under the command of CP Bakori had withdrawn security from the official ceremony, despite clear and direct instructions personally issued to the Commissioner.
“The Commissioner of Police have embarrassed us by his conduct,” Yusuf stated, describing the action as “unprofessional, unethical, and contrary to what is expected of a security chief on such a historic day for the people of Kano and indeed for Nigeria as a whole.”
Insisting that the Commissioner’s behaviour was unacceptable, Governor Yusuf stressed that CP Bakori’s continued presence in Kano poses a challenge to effective coordination of security in the state. He concluded his address by formally declaring, “On behalf of myself as chief security officer, and on behalf of the good people of Kano state, I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, Today.”
