Kano Chief Judge Orders Release of Six Inmates Over Prolonged Detention

In a move to improve justice delivery and reduce prolonged pre-trial detention, the Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Abdu-Aboki, has ordered the release of six inmates who had spent several years in custody without trial. The decision was announced during an official visit to custodial centers in the state.
The release was necessitated by various systemic challenges, including stalled prosecutions, missing case files, and long delays in legal proceedings. According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano Command, Musbahu Lawan, the Chief Judge emphasized the need for closer collaboration among law enforcement and judicial bodies to ensure the timely dispensation of justice.
Justice Abdu-Aboki advised the newly freed inmates to stay away from crime and strive to reintegrate peacefully into society. Echoing her sentiments, the Controller of Corrections in Kano, Ado Inuwa, cautioned the individuals against any actions that could lead them back to prison while also highlighting ongoing rehabilitation programs aimed at making ex-inmates self-reliant upon their release.
