Joint Forces Secure Release of Six Abducted Victims in Taraba

A concerted effort by the Nigerian Army and Police has successfully secured the release of six kidnap victims, including a baby, who were abducted on October 2, 2025, after their vehicle was ambushed by gunmen in Taraba State.
Dependable NG reports that the swift and decisive operation was executed by gallant troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) in collaboration with personnel from the Nigeria Police Force. This successful mission falls under the umbrella of the ongoing clearance operations, code-named Operation LAFIYA NAKOWA, demonstrating the commitment of security agencies to tackling criminality along major routes.
The victims were seized after suspected kidnappers intercepted a Toyota Carina II vehicle traveling from the Katsina-Ala axis in Benue State. The attackers forced the vehicle to a halt near an abandoned checkpoint and subsequently whisked the occupants into the bush.
Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, confirmed that acting on a timely tip-off, the joint security team swiftly mobilized and combed the area. Their rapid response was instrumental in the safe recovery of all six persons, comprising the driver and five passengers.
The rescued individuals have been identified as Mr. Terna Gbaya (43), Mr. Musa Adamu (55), Mrs. Rose Sor (35), Mrs. Lydia Vyiashima (40), Mrs. Comfort Iyofar (60), and an unnamed baby. All victims have since been reunited with their families.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, praised the swift response and synergy displayed by the troops and police during the operation. He reiterated the Brigade’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and property across Taraba State.
Search and rescue operations are continuing to track down the perpetrators and locate any other potential victims still held captive. The Brigade Commander urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support the ongoing efforts against criminal elements in the state.
