Jigawa Police Recover Stolen KEDCO Vehicle and Two Other Vehicles, Arrest Multiple Theft Suspects
The Jigawa State Police Command has reported major breakthroughs in its ongoing efforts to combat car and motorcycle theft across the state, announcing the recovery of a stolen Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) vehicle and two other vehicles, leading to multiple arrests.
Dependable NG reports that the Police spokesperson, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, confirmed the incidents in a statement detailing the successful operations. One key success occurred on November 7, 2025, when officers from the Safer Highway Patrol Team in Ringim, operating collaboratively with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, intercepted a white Toyota Hilux van belonging to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO). The vehicle, bearing registration number ABS 16 MR, was discovered to have been recently stolen in the Dutse Metropolis. However, upon sighting the vigilant patrol team, the suspect abruptly abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bush to escape arrest. The police have successfully recovered and secured the Hilux, and intense efforts are currently underway to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspect.
In a separate and successful operation conducted on November 9, the police arrested a 44-year-old man, Muhammad Muhammad, who hails from Gombe State. He was apprehended in connection with the theft of a golden Toyota Corolla LE. The car, originally registered as KBT 932 TJ, was reportedly stolen in Kano State. The police investigation revealed that the suspect “could not provide satisfactory proof of ownership” and had gone to the extent of changing the plate number to Adamawa JMT 98PD after stealing it. The case involving Muhammad has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) for further thorough probe before being transferred to the Kano Police Command, where the original crime occurred, for subsequent prosecution.
On the same day, police operatives at the Dan Masara checkpoint achieved another arrest, detaining Suraja Gaye, 28, from Dangoli town in Kiyawa local government, for the alleged theft of a motorcycle. His arrest followed suspicious behavior which prompted a search that revealed inconsistencies in his claims of ownership. The suspect is now in custody as investigators work diligently to locate the motorcycle’s rightful owner. The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, used the statement to praise the officers and vigilante members for their alertness and professionalism, urging them to maintain their rigorous efforts. He also called on residents to continue to share useful information to help security agencies track down criminal elements, reaffirming that the Jigawa State Police Command remains fully committed to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all residents.
