Jandor: 2027 Presidential Election Will Be A Walkover For Tinubu, After His Return To APC

The political landscape is already heating up ahead of the 2027 general election, with a notable prediction coming from Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, the former Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 governorship candidate in Lagos State, who has recently returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jandor, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, predicted a decisive victory for President Bola Tinubu in the next presidential poll. His remarks suggest the outcome would be an easy triumph not just in Lagos State but across the entire country, citing a consolidation of power that he believes will be insurmountable for the opposition. In a strong endorsement of the current administration’s leader, Jandor stated that the factors which led to political upsets for President Tinubu in 2023—most notably the symbolic loss in his home state of Lagos to the Labour Party’s Peter Obi—would not be repeated. He grounded his confidence in his own recent political shift, arguing that the landscape is changing fundamentally in favour of the ruling party.

“Remember, in 2023, Jandor and his Lagos for Lagos movement were outside, and this time, we are back inside,” he remarked, confirming that his return to the APC in March 2025 following his exit from the PDP would significantly boost the party’s cohesion and electoral strength. He further stressed that the President’s national influence has only grown since his victory in the fiercely contested 2023 election, making the next race a formality for the incumbent. “2027, not only in Lagos but in the entire country, is going to be a walkover for the man whose courage has given us a lot in this country today,” he asserted, cementing his belief in the President’s political dominance. Jandor’s defection back to the APC came after his third-place finish in the 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial election, where the incumbent, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the APC, retained his seat. Jandor stated his rationale for rejoining the APC was to align with a party that is driven by the imperative to win, regardless of internal conflicts, a pragmatic approach he is now adopting for the next election cycle.

Despite his strong support for the President’s national re-election bid, Jandor’s personal political focus remains squarely on the Lagos State governorship seat. He has formally declared his intention to contest for the governorship once again in 2027, a goal that appears undeterred by the presence of a sitting APC governor and potential rival candidates within the party.

“What you heard yesterday is for us to once again to express our can-do ability and give a shot to the same seat that we gun for during the last electioneering process,” Jandor explained. He noted the timeline for the next Presidential election, stating: “There is no vacancy in Aso Rock till 2031, I would have said maybe the next thing should be me running for president.” His immediate focus, he conveyed, is to rally support for the APC across the state, indicating that he will ultimately abide by the party’s selection process for its governorship flag-bearer. Nevertheless, Jandor was unequivocal about his current ambition: “but for Jandor, I am running in 2027 and I have so declared.” He added that he would welcome the possibility of facing Seyi Tinubu, the President’s son, in the APC governorship primary in Lagos, stating that the younger Tinubu is well qualified for the position and would receive his complete support if the party ultimately selects him as the candidate.
