INEC Confirms 6,879 BVAS Ready for Anambra Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided assurance that approximately 6,879 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines have been successfully configured and are ready for deployment for the crucial governorship election scheduled for Saturday in Anambra State.

Dependable NG reports that the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, confirmed the readiness during the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election Stakeholders’ Meeting held on Tuesday at the Professor Dora Akunyili Memorial Centre in Awka. Professor Amupitan stated that out of the thirteen planned activities for the election, eleven have already been successfully completed, leaving only the end of campaigns and the Election Day itself.

The INEC Chairman confirmed that a total of 16 candidates participating in the election have had their names published. He emphasized the institution’s readiness, noting that about 6,829 BVAS have been deployed and configured for the exercise. He also assured stakeholders that the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) Portal is prepared to upload results in real-time, ensuring the winner can be announced without unnecessary delay. Professor Amupitan, who views the success of the election as a measure of his credibility, also highlighted that 3,456 persons with disabilities are registered to exercise their civic rights.

The final register approved for the election stands at 2,802,790 voters. The commission registered 168,187 new voters, and after the mandatory Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) screening, 27,817 invalid multiple entries were removed, leaving 140,370 valid new voters.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, represented by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Benjamin Okolo, assured stakeholders that the police would maintain a civil conduct while not tolerating violence or vote inducement. The Supervising National Commissioner, Dr. Ken Ukeagu, added that about 24,000 adhoc staff have been trained, and urged voters to have their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ready as they would not be allowed to vote without them. The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra State, Queen Elizabeth Agwu, concluded by stating that all necessary arrangements are complete for Saturday’s governorship election.
