The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a directive for its members to begin an indefinite, nationwide strike starting on November 1, 2025. This critical development was confirmed in a statement released by NARD President, Mohammad Suleiman, on Sunday.

The decision to embark on the industrial action comes after the expiration of a 30-day ultimatum previously given to the Federal Government. The association insists that the government has failed to address a range of their long-standing and unresolved demands. Dependable NG reports that the strike directive was the result of an intense five-hour Extra-Ordinary National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held by the association on Saturday.

The NEC’s resolution is comprehensive, unanimously directing the union’s leadership to declare a “total, comprehensive and indefinite strike action” set to commence just before midnight, specifically on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 11:59 pm. The association’s statement further noted that the NEC has laid out clear minimum demands, established detailed strike monitoring directives, and affirmed a firm stance on the ‘no work, no pay’ / ‘no pay, no work’ resolution, all deemed necessary for the successful execution of their action. This impending strike threatens to paralyze healthcare services across the nation if the Federal Government and the resident doctors fail to reach a swift agreement.
